Within the US there are 9 approved regional standards covering the forested portions of the entire continental US that are applied “above and beyond” the Principles and Criteria, specific to the forest types found in the U.S. Regional Standards were developed by Regional working groupswho began their work in 1997.

In 2001 all of the regional working groups were required to “harmonize” their regional standards with a set of National Indicators approved by the FSC-US Board on February 5th, 2001.

Standards Review Process: FSC-US is required by FSC International to review its regional standards periodically; all US regional standards are currently being reviewed. For more information, please visit the Standards Review Process section of the website.
