FSC-U.S. President Roger Dower has announced the appointment of two new Vice Presidents for the organization. Edward “Ned" Daly of Takoma Park, MD has been appointed as FSC-U.S. Vice President of Operations and Dr. Michael Washburn of New Haven, CT has been appointed as Vice President of Forestry and Marketing. While Daly served as FSC-U.S. board chair and Forest Policy Director for the Consumer’s Choice Council, he led a campaign to get New York City to specify FSC-certified wood. Daly also served as Director of the Resource Conservation Alliance, and of the Environmental Resource Information Network in Washington, DC. Daly has performed extensive government relations and strategy work for the nonprofit sector including work for Greenpeace, the Alliance for the Wild Rockies, the Taxpayer Assets Project and Save America’s Forests. Washburn was most recently Director of the Program on Forest Certification at Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and holds a Ph.D. in Forest Resources from Pennsylvania State University. While at Yale he oversaw the FSC certification of the Yale-Meyers Research Forest, and helped establish the nation’s first academic program focused on forest certification. Washburn was also Yale Liaison to the Sustainable Development Staff of the USDA Forest Service, where he has supported the federal government’s efforts to encourage sustainable development in the U.S. Prior to Yale, Washburn served as National Coordinator of the Sustainable Forestry Partnership, a multi-university consortium working to strengthen the science and practice of sustainable forestry. “The FSC has revolutionized the business of forestry and now we are poised to revolutionize the wood products marketplace. Daly and Washburn will help the FSC expand its membership base, diversify and expand markets for certified wood and increase number of certified acres. The FSC has developed into the premier certification system in the U.S. and the world, but our job is just beginning," said Roger Dower, FSC-U.S. President. “Together, Daly and Washburn round out our new management team. Either of these outstanding individuals would have been exciting for FSC — together they constitute a real coup." This article is part of the following newsletter: Early January 2003 Go Back |
