Why FSC Was Important to This Project
The New York Public Library determined that sustainability would be a central element in the design, construction and operation of the Bronx Library Center before the library's site was purchased or the design process initiated. Sustainable design was a key part of the Library's charge to the design team, and the project team committed to seeking LEED® certification from the beginning of the design process.

Use of FSC-certified Wood
Of the wood based materials and products used on the project, 79% were FSC-certified. Certified wood used on the project was used for doors, and throughout the extensive millwork package provided by an FSC certified millwork shop.
The construction manager persuaded a previously uncertified millwork firm – Steve Core Doors - to obtain FSC chain of custody certification. This added another potential source of FSC-certified products in the tri-state area – increasing competition and options for other future projects seeking FSC certified millwork.
